About the Centre

"Anger is a habit which is learned and therefore can be unlearned"
-Latchman Narain

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intention of throwing it at someone else. You are the one who gets burned.

The Anger Management Centre of Toronto, Inc. was founded in 2000 by Latchman Narain, Ph.D (see below) in an effort to address the dire need for mental health services in the Markham-Scarborough community. Since its inception, the Centre has experienced rapid growth and has extended its services into the North York region. Most clients have reported that they have benefited immensely from the Centre’s counselling services which integrate both Eastern and Western treatment approaches (see below). This has been particularly true for those who experience challenges with excessive anger and its negative side effects, both short and long term. The Centre is considered by many as the pre-eminent provider of anger management counselling services in the Toronto area.

Latchman P. Narain, a Registered Psychotherapist, is of Guyanese parentage. He completed high school in Guyana and university training in both Canada and the United States. Latchman is an anger management specialist holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-Chemistry and Masters and Doctorate degrees in Counselling Psychology. He also has a Diploma in Cross Cultural Counselling from St. John’s University, New York City. Latchman was also a certified teacher, guidance counsellor and parent educator.

He is a registered member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrics and Psychotherapists (OACCPP) and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Latchman has been practicing in the field of family counselling for the past twenty (20) years and has specialized mainly in the areas of Anger Management and Partner Assault since 2000. Currently, he offers individual counselling for the Partner Assault Response Services (PARS) Program on an individual basis. His extensive experience in the practice of mindfulness, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has aided many clients in making positive changes in their lives.

Latchman has also published some seminal articles and facilitated many workshops in the field of counselling and mental health for businesses and corporations. His areas of expertise include Anger Management, Domestic Violence, Depression, Anxiety, Personal Development and Effective Parenting. In addition, he presented a highly successful monthly seminar series on the topic:” Anger, Spirituality and Relationships” at The Learning Annex in Toronto, Canada. Currently, he facilitates groups for adults with anger issues on a regular basis in the Scarborough – Markham area.

Recently Latchman has volunteered his time and expertise to the Guyana Foundation, a non-profit organization, which strives to eradicate the climbing suicide rate in Guyana. He has facilitated training workshops to Mental Health Coaches to equip them with the skills necessary when working with a vulnerable population through compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Latchman’s client-centered approach integrates both Eastern approaches, such as mindfulness practices, and Western treatment models such as evidenced-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy, applied within a holistic and culturally appropriate context

Owing to demand, we are now also offering telephone and Skype counselling sessions for anger management and other programs, as needed.
