
Anger Management Program
This program is a series of ten sessions geared to help clients recognize, target and heal the sources of their anger. Each session is approximately 1 hour in length and the duration of the program is ten weeks. It can also be completed within a shorter time period. It meets the requirements of the Ontario court system.
If requested, you will receive a Letter and/or a Certificate of Completion after the successful completion of the program, which is acceptable by the Ontario court system.
Objectives
Clients will explore the following objectives:
- Learn about anger as an emotion; the role of stress and trigger thoughts.
- Recognize bodily cues to anger
- Understand anger and physiology; in particular, the role of the hormonal system.
- Explore healthy ways to express anger.
- Learn what self-esteem is and how anger impacts one’s self-esteem.
- Move from passive and/or aggressive ways of expressing anger to assertive ways with self-confidence.
- Understand the negative impact of anger on relationships.
- Learn what actions you can take to manage your anger more effectively.
- Develop skills to manage the anger of others more effectively.
- Help resolve your anger.
Session 1: What is anger? Body signs of anger. Anger physiology—role of the nervous and endocrine system.
Session 2: What are some major causes of anger? Which ones apply to you?
Session 3: Anger and Stress—a model to understand your anger. Identifying your stressors and trigger thoughts.
Session 4: Anger styles – individual and cultural differences.
Session 5: Functional and dysfunctional aspects of anger.
Session 6: Anger and relationships.
Session 7: Anger and self-esteem.
Session 8: Anger interventions (part 1)
Session 9: Anger Interventions (part 2).
Session 10: Anger and the healing process. Review of previous sessions.
Both telephone and Internet-based counselling sessions for anger management are also available.
