Domestic Abuse Anger Program

The Domestic Abuse Anger Program is designed to educate clients about unhealthy relationship dynamics and characteristics, especially in the context of power and control.

While incorporating anger management interventions, clients are taught to identify anger triggers within their relationship and effective methods of managing anger. This program entails attending twelve (12) 1-hour individual psychological sessions and can be completed within 1-2 months. A Report of Completion will be issued upon completion of the program.

The topics are as follows:

  1. Assessment: narrative, context of precipitating events
  2. Counselling goals: Creating healthy relationships
  3. Multi-Causal Model of Domestic Violence: individual, partner, societal factors
  4. Anger awareness (internal cues: psychological and physiological changes)
  5. Power and control issues in relationships
  6. Anger interventions and applications e.g. non-retaliation in confrontations, defusing anger in interpersonal interactions, mindfulness in everyday life, letting go
  7. Effective communication in the partner
  8. Stress management in relationships
  9. The healthy partner relationship: core characteristics
  10. Forgiveness and the partner relationships
  11. Effective communication versus shaming and blaming
  12. How to deal with an angry/emotional person/partner
  13. Review of the above topics
